ANVC(B) begins Samaritan service by donating blood

Shillong, May 29: The ANVC(B) on Wednesday began its good Samaritan services by donating blood to the Blood bank of Tura Civil Hospital.
ANVC(B) Chairman, Rimpu N. Marak, made the first donation followed by several cadres and officers of the organization, the outfit informed in a press communiqué here.

JAC pickets PHE, says will not allow dam construction

TURA, May 29: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) for the protest against the building of the Daribokgre dam in South Garo Hills started a picket in the office of the PHE in Baghmara. The picketing started on the May 27 last and is likely to continue for quite some time as the JAC is determined to pressure the Government to put an immediate stop to the dam construction.

Restaurants shut down in Tura after inspection

Tura, May 29: Food lovers were in for a disappointment on Wednesday as almost all restaurants within the town of Tura were shut down following a surprise check conducted by District Magistrate and the Food Supply Inspector. Almost all the food joints were closed after the check as most had been operating without an updated license and some against food and safety regulations.

Govt has hidden agenda behind land acquisition: HNYF

SHILLONG, May 29: The Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) in its recent CEC deliberation has taken serious note of the intention of the Government to acquire more land in the proposed establishments of the New Shillong Town Ship.
The hidden agenda behind this land acquisition is to bypass the spirit of the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution with the idea of converting the whole land in the proposed New Shillong into government land so that all prohibitions of the Sixth Schedule including the Land Transfer Act will stand null and void in the government property, said HNYF, Finance Secretary, BL Ryntathiang in a press note.

Khyllep- Bringing practical approach to development

TURA, May 29: The newly commissioned district of North Garo Hills, which has been carved out of East Garo Hills has been looking to get on to its feet for quite a while. The Deputy Commissioner of the district, W Khyllep has been doing his bit in trying to work for the betterment of the people of the region ever since he has been posted to it.
Khyllep has been running from pillar to post to bring in change, while also being very practical in his approach and realistic in his expectations of the people around him.
