Meet on non-functioning LPG agency

SHILLONG Jan 08: The Deputy Commissioner (Supply), East Garo Hills, Williamnagar has informed the general public of  Williamnagar Town area that a meeting will be held on January 11, in DRDA Hall-1 Williamnagar at 11 am in connection with non-functioning of LPG  agency. Therefore all the general public are requested to attend the meeting positively.

ECI exhorts for ‘informed and ethical’ voting

SHILLONG, Jan 08: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday directed the state officers to “take up scientific and targeted measures” to ensure full turnout of voters.
Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India, VS Sampath, said the Commission is currently engaged in ensuring “informed and ethical” voting measures in Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura, where assembly elections are likely to be held next month.

Coordination committee for women formed; chairperson for MSWC demanded

SHILLONG, Jan 08: With an aim to curb down the menace of crime against women, laying special emphasis to rape, members of the various women NGOs of the state including the Seng Longkmie of the different localities brain stormed their way into setting up a coordination committee to coordinate with the various women's organizations all over the state and demand immediate appointment of a new Chairperson for Meghalaya State Women's Commission (MSWC) before the announcement of dates for 2013 Assembly polls.

SHILLONG, Jan 07: State Community and Rural Development (C&RD) Minister Saleng Sangma Monday said he was literally “shocked and dejected” by the decision of the AICC who denied him the party ticket even as he added that he has been “betrayed”.
“I am in great shock when I see my name has been denied of the party ticket,” Sangma told reporters here.
“I am really dejected with the result. I will go to the field as an independent candidate. Had I known this would be the result I would have camped in Delhi to lobby for the tickets,” he expressed adding “I had trusted Dr. Mukul Sangma a lot who has bitten me”.

RTI exposes misutilization of funds by Hek

SHILLONG, Jan 07: Ahead of the State Assembly elections slated for February, an RTI finding Monday revealed huge misappropriation of funds under the Special Rural Works Programme (SRWP), to the tune of Rs 2 crores, meant for the welfare of the people of Pynthorumkhrah constituency by the GAD Minister and Congress candidate AL Hek.
The RTI was filed by the Pynthorumkhrah People’s Association (PPA) recently.
