High level inquiry to probe ‘child soldier’ reports: NCPCR

SHILLONG, Jan 08: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Tuesday said Meghalaya has agreed to institute a ‘high-level-inquiry’ to probe into the reports of children being recruited and employed by militant groups and coal barons as “Goondas” and “child soldiers” in different parts of the state.
“The State government has assured that it would conduct a high level inquiry into the matter,” NCPCR member Yogesh Dube told reporters here after the commission’s meeting with the different government officials.

Govt constitutes SPV for contractors’ capacity building

SHILLONG, Jan 08: To ensure that there is no more delay in the implementation of the projects in the state, Meghalaya government Tuesday decided to constitute a ‘Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV)’ to promote and assist contractors in state.
“We have decided to contribute an amount of Rs. 20 Crores as corpus fund in the Government owned company - SPV – to build the capacity of contractors and assist them financially in the form of loans,” Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma told reporters after the Cabinet meeting here.

DFO urges people to stop killing wild animals, birds

SHILLONG, Jan 08: The Forest Department, Wildlife Wing, in a letter, has expressed concern over the recent killing of wild animals inside Nongkhyllem and other areas outside the Government Reserve.
The Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Khasi Hills Wildlife Division, Shillong, in the latter, appealed to general public to stop killing of wild animals and birds as they are protected under Wildlife Protection Act 1972.

AJYWO supports KSU’s demand for empowering District Councils

SHILLONG Jan 08: The All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organisation (AJYWO) has expressed its full fledged support to the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) demand that the government should also empower the Khasi and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Councils and not just the GHADC.

Price of LPG Cylinder Fixed

Jowai, Jan 08: Consequent upon the revision in the retail price of Domestic Subsidized refilled LPG cylinder of 14.2Kgs in weight, the price being revised by the IOC with effect from October 7, 2012, the Deputy Commissioner ( Supply), West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai has informed that the rate of Domestic Subsidised cylinder is Rs. 435.00 (Home delivery) and for Domestic Non- subsidised is 976.00 per cylinder.
This price is inclusive of delivery at Ummulong, Ialong and Eight Mile.
