AYWO General Secretary arrested after Minister’s complaint, situation tense

Tura, Aug 18: In a fresh twist to the tale of protest against the appointment of the new Selsella BDO, police arrested the General Secretary of AYWO of Selsella on the charges of fomenting trouble within the region. An FIR was filed by Power Minister and local MLA, Clement Marak against Hubert Marak, the General Secretary of AYWO for breaching the peace and harmony, instigating violence as well as extortion from people.

Mid-Day meals under scanner in South Garo Hills

Tura, Aug 18: The mid-day meal system has come under the scanner once again – this time in the South Garo Hills region. The scheme which is meant to benefit school children all over the country has been fraught with corruption in most places; the state of Meghalaya is no exception to the rule. The incident came to light when one head mistress of a school in Baghmara complained that provisions for mid-day meals were being provided very irregularly while she was being asked to maintain a record for the whole year!

CSWO condemns lynching of trio at Smit

Shillong, Aug 18: The CSWO has condemned the brutal killing of three people at Smit on Friday night on the grounds of practicing witchcraft.
“This is an outdated suspicion and the killing has to be thoroughly investigated into; so that such atrocities on human lives are curtailed. Such brutal killings can also be termed as witch practices and cannot exonerate the perpetrators,” CSWO President Agnes Kharshiing stated in a press statement here.

Health camp organized at Dienglieng village

Shillong, Aug 18: As part of the 126th Anniversary celebration of Unitarian movement in Khasi – Jaintia Hills, a health camp was organized at Dienglieng village under Mawkynrew block on Saturday.
The camp was inaugurated by the President of the Seng Samla Unitarian Union, Lumlang Nongbri in the presence of its general secretary Khlanhiwat Lamare and the medical team from Laban congregation.

The fight for Garoland will continue: GHSMC
