Meghalaya High Court gets first ever tribal Khasi judge

SHILLONG, Nov 19: Having been administered his oath of office by Chief Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir here on Monday, Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew has now scripted history be becoming the first ever tribal Khasi to be sworn in as a judge of the Meghalaya High Court.
Pursuant to the Supreme Court Collegium’s resolution in September this year, the Central government has notified the appointment of Thangkhiew as judge of the Meghalaya High Court.

DD Lapang decides to join NPP

SHILLONG, Nov 19: The National People’s Party (NPP) is set to get a major boost with the former Congress leader, DD Lapang having decided to soon join its ranks.
“I have decided to join the NPP but it will take two weeks or few weeks for me. The exact date I have not decided but very soon,” Dr. Lapang announced soon after deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong and NPP state president WR Kharlukhi met him in his office here on Monday.

Union government undermining India’s great leaders: MPCC

SHILLONG, Nov 19: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee has accused the present Union Government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of undermining the greatness of India’s leaders.
During an observation of the 101st birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi here on Monday which was organized by the MPCC, the speakers condemned the tendencies of the Present Union Government, to undermine the greatness of Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru, Indira Gandhi and others by observing their Birth and Death Anniversaries, as some other occasions including clandestine attempts to Observe the Holy Occasion of ‘25th December’ as ‘Good Governance Day’ and ‘Good Friday’ as ‘Digital India Day’.

Keeping silent is worse than committing a crime: Adelbert

Nongrum had made this comment while speaking as the chief guest of a one-day district level campaign on “End Violence against Children” which was conducted by Wrold Vision India at Brookdene Hall, Shillong.

One more arrested in connection with EGH kidnap case

TURA, Nov 19: East Garo Hills (EGH) police have made another breakthrough in the recent kidnapping of a trader from Krishnai in Goalpara in Assam, with the arrest of another suspect from the district.
The trader Tapos Dey was kidnapped on November 13 while he was on his way to the weekly market of Rongsak in East Garo Hills under Chiading PS at about 8:30 am. He was kidnapped by a group of bike borne criminals but let off the same night of the kidnapping.
