SHILLONG, Sep 21: The Meghalaya Protection of Interest of Depositors (in Financial Establishments) Bill, 2018 – which seeks to protect the citizens of Meghalaya from any fraudulent intentions of financial institutions was introduced in the Assembly here on Friday.
Introducing the Bill during the first day of the autumn session, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in a statement said it has become necessary to have a strong law in the state in order to protect the interest of the depositors in financial institutions operating in the state.
SHILLONG, Sep 21: The former Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr. Mukul Sangma has rubbished reports that the Congress party has adopted a policy through which it is phasing out its senior leaders.
“There will be many people who will be joining the party, many good leaders who matters for the state will be joining the party,” Dr. Sangma said here on Friday.
Dr. Sangma was reacting to a query relating to reports that some more leaders of the Congress will leave the party following the recent exit of its most senior leader Dr. DD Lapang.
SHILLONG, Sep 21: The final draft of the Meghalaya State Education Policy, 2018 has finally been approved by the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government which is seeking to address various challenges faced by the education sector in the state.
“We have approved the final draft Meghalaya State Education Policy, 2018 which is a long pending aspiration of the people of the state,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed after a Cabinet meeting which was held here on Friday.
SHILLONG, Sep 21: The United Democratic Party (UDP) will soon propose that the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) fields a common candidate from the party to contest the Shillong seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
“We would also like to propose that the common candidate for the Shillong seat should be from the UDP while suggesting that let the Tura seat go to the National People’s Party (NPP) since we being the main parties in the coalition government,” UDP general secretary, Jemino Mawthoh said on Friday.
TURA, Sep 21: Despite the crackdown on illegal saw mills and timber in the Garo Hills region, the Chibinang area in Phulbari under West Garo Hills (WGH) has continued to defy the crackdown with timber smuggling and saw mills once again beginning operations in the area.
Interestingly, emboldened smugglers have begun to even transport timber during day time, as if encouraged by someone or some groups of people in this illegal activity.
