Tharoor accuses Meghalaya’s political parties working with BJP

SHILLONG, Feb 23: Lok Sabha MP, Shashi Tharoor has accused the National People’s Party (NPP) besides other regional parties in Meghalaya of having a clandestine working agreement with the Bharatiya Janata Party in the upcoming Assembly elections.
“They are trying to say to the people that they are independent and contesting by themselves and everywhere else but Meghalaya they are allied to the BJP and they are attaching themselves as a tail that is wagging along whenever the dog barks,” he said.

Jonathone’s widow to contest elections on NCP ticket

SHILLONG, Feb 23: The widow of recently slain NCP candidate, Jonathone N Sangma has decided to accede to the wishes of the people of the constituency and take up the mantle of contesting the upcoming Assembly elections on an NCP ticket.
The people of Williamnagar, from where Jonathone was supposed to contest, had called a meeting on Friday to which they had invited the leaders of the NPP.

Sanbor accuses Manas of violating Model Code of Conduct

SHILLONG, Feb 23: The BJP candidate from South Shillong constituency, Sanbor Shullai has accused his rival from the Congress party Manas Chaudhuri of violating the Model Code of Conduct by using a charitable trust to provide benefits to voters in the constituency.
In an official complaint filed with the Returning Officer, South Shillong Assembly Constituency, Shullai said that Chaudhuri has taken advantage of his position as Managing Trustee of the Ardendu Chaudhuri Charitable Trust and is distributing family identity cards to BPL families in the constituency.

Congress dividing Meghalaya along religious lines: NPP

SHILLONG, Feb 23: The Congress party has been accused of dividing Meghalaya along religious lines in order to garner votes for itself in the ensuing Assembly elections.
“The Congress is clearly trying to divide the state along religious lines to gain votes as they are aware that the NPP is competing against the BJP in most of the constituencies and not the Congress,” NPP state president WR Kharlukhi said in a statement issued here on Friday.

NEHUTA rallies against ‘non – functioning’ NEHU administration

SHILLONG, Feb 23: The North Eastern Hill University Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) organized a protest gathering of teachers on Friday before the Vice-Chancellors’ office to highlight what it has termed as that serious non-functioning of NEHU administration, as large number of teachers are denied timely promotions due to insensitivity of the Vice-Chancellor and his administration.
