GNLA’s Lance Corporal killed in lower Assam

Shillong, Dec 22: A self styled Lance Corporal of Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) was killed in an encounter with the joint team of police and army in lower Assam Golapara District on Friday night.
The security forces had launched an search operation on a tip off about the kidnapping planned by extremists in Suorkona village, under Lakhipur Police station and cordoned off the area. On coming face to face with security team at around 8 pm on Friday night, the militants opened fire and in a retaliatory shooting in self defence one GNLA militant was killed while two managed to escape in the dense vegetation.

ANVC(B) ‘still open for talks’

Shillong, Dec 22: ANVC(B) has assured the public that the peace will not be disturbed during the ongoing festive season, even as it affirmed that it was ‘still open for talks’.
The outfit also expressed its gratitude to the citizens of Garo Hills for showing solidarity on December 20 last in remembering the brave warriors of the soil. “We are truly taken up by tremendous support and cooperation of the people,” the Breakaway faction’s Chairman Rimpu Marak said.

5.7 magnitude quake rattles Shillong

Shillong, Dec 22: Shillong city was on Saturday night rattled by a moderate intensity earthquake.
The earthquake registered 5.7 magnitude on Richter scale and occurred around 10.11 pm.
The epicenter of the quake was at Myanmar, Lat. 22.5°N Long. 94.8°E.
Till the filling of this report, no reports of any damage or casualty were reported.

First level checking of EVMs held at SWKH

SHILLONG Dec 22: The First Level Checking of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) was held on Friday and Saturday at the DC’s office Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills (SWKH) District.
Engineers from the Electronic Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) along with the District Election Officer   A.Mawlong, Additional Deputy Commissioner in charge Election K.L.Nongbri, Additional Deputy Commissioner in charge training and personnel M.S.Sangma, Extra Assistance Commissioner A.Nongbri and Master trainers took part in checking the EVMs during these two days.
