SHILLONG, Dec 01: With the top political parties in the country having expressed their lack of confidence in conducting the elections through the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) at the all party meeting held in New Delhi in 2010, and the state government’s failure to introduce the upgraded EVMs for the upcoming Meghalaya General elections, United Democratic Party (UDP) on Saturday decided to ask the Election Commission of India (ECI) to revert back to the traditional ballot system.
DADENGGRE, Dec 01: Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma Friday laid the Foundation Stone for the Greater Raksamgre Water Supply Scheme (GWSS) under the National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) at Raksamgre under Tikrikilla C and RD Block. At the same programme the CM also laid the foundation Stone for the strengthening and improvement of riding road quality of the 15 kilometer stretch Phutamati to Jangrapara road.
The GWSS was sanctioned on March 31 this year for Rs 9.54 crores and will cover 52 villages informed PHE officials.
Shillong, Dec 01: The Department of Social Work, Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) has adopted Mawpun Kshaid, a village which is 25 km from Shillong city.
The objective of this initiative is to bring about development in the areas of health, education, sanitation, drinking water and to be a liaison with other organizations. The department has taken this initiative for 3 years.
