Deceased Manipuri scribe’s wife given Govt job, compensation

IMPHAL, Dec 29: State Cabinet has on Saturday approved to recruit wife of TV journalist Th Dwijamani as a Government Primary School teacher, apart from paying Rs 5 lakh to the next of kins of the scribe as compensation.
The approval was given during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi held at the CM's Secretariat here, Government spokesperson minister M Okendro told the media after the meeting at the New Secretariat. The Cabinet meeting also approved appointment of 122 different posts in the department of Consumers Affairs Food & Public Distribution (CAF &PD) on contract basis under an Rs 30 crore project. The Cabinet took this decision with an aim to ensure that PDS items directly reach at the doors of every beneficiary, Okendro said.

Mukul condoles Delhi gang – rape victim’s death

Shillong, Dec 29: Condoling the death of the Delhi gang – rape victim, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, Saturday said a thorough look into the system to address the menace is the need of the hour.
“A thorough look at the prevailing system to address this menace is the need of the hour,” he said adding that a comprehensive action plan is required which should involve the government and the people as any change that is wanted can only take place when the people themselves involve in the process.
While admitting that crimes against women in matrilineal-Meghalaya is also sky rocketing, Dr Sangma said, “This problem is serious and we all need to concertedly strive towards a permanent solution.”

Liquor, intoxicants worth Rs 3 crore seized in Mizoram this year

AIZAWL, Dec 29: Rs 3 crore worth liquor and other intoxicants have been seized so far during this year by state Excise & Narcotics department and Central Anti-Drugs Squad (CADS).
The total amount which the Excise & Narcotics department received through seizing liquor and other intoxicants during January to November 2012, has come up to Rs. 2, 49, 50,157, which is more than that of the amount received during last year, reports said, adding the total amount received last year was Rs.2, 28, 72,746. The amount received in 11 months this year is Rs. 20,77,411 more than that of the total amount last year.

One arrested for extortion

SHILLONG, Dec 29: On December 26 last, one Jones Syiemlieh (36) was arrested for allegedly demanding Rs. 65,000 from one John Bosco Mawlong, a traditional medicine practitioner from Kynshi area in West Khasi Hills district, police said.
