Shillong, Dec 30: Meghalaya in the year 2012 witnessed a mixed bag of emotions with some losses and some victories and many developmental projects with many scams.
The ‘loss’ was when erstwhile NCP leader, Purno Sangma failed in his attempt to be the first Tribal President of the country; the former Lok Sabha Speaker had certainly brought about a lot of colour and drama in the otherwise dull presidential election, where he lost the battle to the then Union Finance Minister, Pranab Mukherjee in the month of July.

Follow footsteps of great men: Bindo to youths

SHILLONG, Dec 30: Today’s youth should follow the footsteps of the great men in Khasi and Jaintia history like U Tirot Sing and U Kiang Nangbah who have dedicated their life for the state, stressed State Deputy Chief Minister, BM Lanong whiel speaking at a public function organized by the Kiang Nangbah Death Anniversary Commemoration Committee at Sein Raij Dorbar Hall, Qualapatty here on Sunday to observe the 150th Death Anniversary of the Jaintia legend.

3 GNLA militants nabbed by BSF

SHILLONG Dec 30: BSF troops along with Meghalaya Police nabbed three GNLA cadres in a series of raids on Saturday last.
Acting on a tip off, the team carried out a joint operation in the general area of Karaigora and nabbed one female GNLA cadre identified as Kumari M Sangma (20) along with her child.

CM lays base for International School near Tura

TURA, Dec 30: Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma Saturday laid the foundation stone for Pinemount International School at Misimagre village under Rongram C&RD block, near Tura.
The International School, which will be the first of its kind in the State, is being set up with an objective to provide the best education to the children in the region. The system would be such that, whoever takes admission in this school would be sent abroad to study, while students from outside would in turn come here for their studies. The land for this ambitious project has been donated by the Nokma of Manda-Chambugong A’king of Misimagre village.

Weeklong commemoration of Kiang Nangbah’s 150th death anniversary concludes

SHILLONG Dec 30: The Seiñ Raij Jowai concluded the week long commemoration of the 150th death anniversary of freedom fighter Kiang Nangbah on Sunday.
The culmination of the program was held under the leadership of O.R Challam at the Myngkoi Pyrdi grounds and in the presence of Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills District P.S. Dkhar as the Chief Guest.
