Police fails to book indicted legislators, NGO cries foul

SHILLONG, Nov 30: State police Friday failed to register a case against those involved in the infamous education job scam unearthed by the CBI which has raised concern from several quarters in the state. However, the police is still seeking the permission of the Court to add relevant sections to a one year old case.
Mentionably, on November 22 last, the court of First Class Judicial Magistrate I Rymbui directed the police to register cases against those involved in the job scam unearthed by the CBI, in which cabinet Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and several other Congress legislators have been indicted of involvement in tampering the marks of candidates.

Dr Abdul Kalam joins GVK EMRI Board as Chairman Emeritus

Shillong, Nov 30: Bharat Ratna Awardee and former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, has joined the Governing Board of GVK EMRI as Chairman Emeritus.
Dr Kalam, sharing his vision, said “GVK EMRI 108 mission is indeed a 'mission of partnership of every human being to remove the pain and give happiness'.  The 108 service should transform into a beautiful life saving mission throughout the nation."

Jaguar crashes at North Sikkim

Shillong, Nov 30: A Jaguar of Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed near Jongu Village, North Sikkim at about 1.30 pm on Friday.
The aircraft was on a routine sortie from Air Force Base Hashimara.
The Pilot Flight Lieutenant Yogesh Yadav ejected.
Two Air Force Helicopters have been launched for search and rescue operation. A court of Inquiry has been ordered by Air Force.

Meghalaya ‘film industry’ laments lack of government support

SHILLONG, Nov 30: Though ‘film industry’ is trying to make its place in the entertainment business in the state besides generating ample employment opportunities to unemployed talented youths, the indigenous film makers Friday said the state government has failed terribly in giving recognition and support to this industry which has great potentiality in driving unemployment problem faced by the state at present.
“We had approach the government on several occasions on the matter but till today government has failed to show its keen interest in promoting film industry in the region,” Wankitbok Pohshna a member of the film makers in the state said here.

Shillong, Nov 30: The two – day State Level Convention on HIV and AIDS organized by the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS) in collaboration with UNDP, the Meghalaya Legislators Forum on HIV and AIDS (MLFA), UNICEF and other different partnering NGOs got underway on the occasion of World AIDS Day.
This year’s theme for World AIDS Days is “Getting to Zero: zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination, zero AIDS related deaths”.
