Council identifies 12,123 ‘neighborhood schools’ in Meghalaya under RTE

SHILLONG, Nov 27: The government’s constituted State Advisory Council (SAC) has identified a total of 12,123 ‘neighborhood schools’ in the state of Meghalaya under the Right To Education (RTE) Act, even as it said the total expenditure has been estimated at around Rs 900 crores for the implementation of the act during 2014-15.
Notified by the government on March 31, 2012, the SAC constituted to advise the state government on the implementation of the provision of the RTE in the state held its first meeting in the city here on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, State Education Minister who also heads the SAC as Chairman, Dr RC Laloo said, “The committee has come up with a number of recommendations on the implementation of the RTE Act in the state which would be submitted to the state government for its examination within one week.”

All parliamentarians meeting to be convened on Lokayukta

SHILLONG, Nov 27: A delegation of the Meghalaya Right To Information Movement (MRTIM) Tuesday submitted the draft bill of the Lokayukta to the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma demanding for a strong and effective anti-corruption act in the state.
Agreeing to look into the demands of the RTI activists, the Chief Minister assured the delegation that he would soon convene an all party parliamentary meeting to discuss on the draft bill of the Lokayukta.

ANVC(B) concerned over Govt’s attitude, threatens implementation of autonomous power

Shillong, Nov 27: ANVC(B) on Tuesday expressed concern over State Chief Secretary's statement of not being aware of the Breakaway faction’s Memorandum, even as it threatened to implement the autonomous power of the Garos.
“How could he (Chief Secretary) deny the matter when the State level talk was on submitted demands of ANVC(B)?” the outfit’s Chairman Rimpu N. Marak asked while suspecting a foul play within the Government.

Nongstoin, Nov 27: The Mawkyrwat C&RD Block of South West Khasi Hills Tuesday organized its Social Audit Forum at St Vianney’s Hall Mawkyrwat.
The forum was chaired by Principal of the Sngap Syiem College Mawkyrwat, Dr S S Khongkhliam. Also present at the occasion was the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Mawkyrwat, O T Lyngwa.

Signature campaign against Job Scam evokes massive response

SHILLONG, Nov 27: Launching its second phase of protest against the recent education job scam unearthed by the CBI, the Federation of Khasi-Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) Tuesday sponsored a one-day state wide “signature campaign” in the different parts of the state which was participated by thousands of people.
The CBI in its findings has named top notch politicians’ involvement in the tampering and manipulation of score sheets in the recruitment process to the posts of the assistant lower primary school teachers in the state.
