Shillong lad conferred National NSS Volunteer Award

SHILLONG, Nov 29: NSS Volunteer of Shillong College, Tara Prasad Upadhay, has been conferred with the Indira Gandhi National NSS Volunteer Award 2012.
The Award was presented by the President of India Pranab Mukherjee at a function held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on November 19 last coinciding with the Birth Anniversary of the Late Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi.
Upadhay was one amongst the two NSS Volunteer from North Eastern States of India selected for the award.
This is the third consecutive year that Shillong College has bagged this prestigious award.
Previously, Palvy Dora Kharkongor and Wantreki Lyngdoh, both being the NSS volunteers of Shillong college were conferred with the same award in the year 2010 and 2011 respectively.

HABSCA concerned over ‘teer’ result manipulation by wealthy bookies

SHILLONG, Nov 29: Irked over the huge manipulation by the stewards who were getting paid from wealthy bookies and were involved in the making, the Secretary of the Hynniewtrep Archery Bookies Social and Cultural Association (HABSCA), Dennis Lyngdoh in a news conference here on Thursday said that the association cannot accept such irregularities since it disrupts the whole operation of the system in the ‘teer’ business.

Govt's guidelines to prevent misuse of Sec 66

New Delhi, Nov 29 (PTI): Yielding to public protests on the recent controversial arrest of some persons for their Facebook posts, Government Thursday came out with guidelines where a police officer no less than the rank of DCP can sanction prosecution.
In metropolitan cities, such an approval would have to be given by officers at the level of Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Youths asked to work sincerely, focus on developmental activities

Shillong, Nov 29: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has called upon the youth of the state to propagate themselves properly so that the people of the State will benefit greatly.
Speaking to members of the State Youth Congress, he emphasized on the various schemes of the Government while urging the people of the State through the youth to avail the various schemes of the Government.
Dr. Sangma also stressed on more focus on the livelihood programme which is the Flagship program of the State.
He further called upon the youth to work sincerely and focus on the various activities and developmental programmes being implemented in the State while urging them to be more aware of the various programmes.
He also encouraged members of the Youth Congress to be more competent and vibrant.

CM issues travel advisory to VIPs for movement in Garo Hills

SHILLONG, Nov 28: In view of the recent attempts to assassinate two Congress leaders in Garo Hills that reflects the appalling law and order situation in the region, state government Wednesday issued travel advisories to VIPs and individuals to coordinate their movements with district administration for security covers.
“It is imperative on the part of the personalities who happened to hold high post and high positions to coordinate their movement and be made available to the district administration and the need to move with security covers,” Chief Minister Dr Mukul M Sangma told reporters here after a Cabinet meet.
