TURA, Nov 28: The Achik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) has decided to join the Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC) to show its support to the demand for a separate Garoland state in the state capital on December 5.
AHAM is led by the former chairman of Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), a militant outfit that was involved in an armed struggle on the demand for a separate Garoland state.
“We have firmly decided to support the demand for a separate Garoland state and will do so until the demand is assured by the Government of India,” said AHAM’s publicity secretary, Johny A Marak.
AHAM stated that the demand for a separate state is a Constitutional right.
“We are entitled to our own state since it was begun in the 19th century by Late Sonoram Sangma and the late PA Sangma fought the election on the same issue. Fortunately we have a Chief Minister who has the same blood and spirit. Let our support send a message to all. We will always be there to support issues for the welfare and cause of Garo people,” said the NGO.
