SHILLONG, Nov 05: The district administration of East Khasi Hills has asked the citizens to strictly comply with the direction of the Supreme Court which prohibited bursting of crackers beyond two hours during major festivals including the ensuing Deepawali festival.
In a statement issued here on Monday, Deputy Commissioner PS Dkhar said that failure to strictly comply with the directions will invite strict action as per law.

He informed that the timings for the said crackers from all wholesale and retail outlets has been fixed from 10 AM on November 6 and 7 while the time for bursting of low decibel and low emission crackers has been fixed from 8 PM to 10 PM only, in the entire District.
“Further, any bursting of crackers for religious, social or cultural purposes would necessitate the groups concerned to obtain necessary permission in writing from the DC’s office, failing which, the group concerned will be held personally responsible for their acts which are in contravention of the Supreme Court’s order,” Dkhar said.
