IMPHAL, OCT 26: There were reports of firing incident at the Indo-Myanmar border town Moreh in the wee hours of Friday.
According to the reports, it appeared a fierce gun battle between warring underground groups. However, the sources could not ascertain the identities of armed groups involved in the incident.
According to the reports, the gun fight began at around 1 am and lasted for about 45 minutes near the 11 KV power sub-station. Blood stains were seen in the spot, the reports said. Bullet marks are seen at walls, roof and the gate of the power sub-station, according to the reports. A pistol loaded with ammunition and used shells were also recovered from the spot, the reports further said.
Meanwhile, police has been keeping a tight vigil throughout the day today to prevent the recurrence of such incident.
Meanwhile, various organisations including Hill Tribal Council, Moreh (HTC-M), Kuki Women Union, Moreh (KWU-M), Kuki Student Organisation, Moreh Block and Moreh Youth Club have termed the incident as unfortunate. While strongly condemning the incident, these organisations asked the armed parties involved in the incident not to repeat the same in the future.
