SHILLONG, Oct 10: In a move that will surely provide some relief to the embattled vehicle owners in the state, the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government has reduced the price of petrol and diesel in the state by Rs. 2.50 per litre.
Announcing this after a cabinet meeting that was held here on Wednesday, the state’s Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said, “After a detailed discussion, the cabinet has approved the proposal for reducing the price of petrol and diesel by Rs 2.50 per litre and this will take effective immediately from tomorrow (Friday).”
He said this was in line with the recent decision taken by the Central government to reduce the price of petrol and diesel by Rs 2.50 per litre.
Terming the cabinet’s decision as a bold one, Tynsong informed that the state government is forced to bear an additional expenditure of Rs 15 crore annually.
He also said accordingly the concerned departments such as the ERTS, forests, mining & geology, transport and others have been asked to find out ways and means to generate additional revenue.
Tynsong said that the decision was arrived at not because of any pressure from the Centre but rather, it was the state government’s own courageous decision to reduce prices of petrol and diesel.
