SHILLONG, Oct 04: Alleging that political interference is responsible for what he has termed as an ‘irregular’ transfer of police officers across the ranks, the Leader of Opposition, Dr. Mukul Sangma has urged the Chief Minister of Meghalaya to address this troubling issue.
“I, therefore, urge you to call for a discussion related to the matter indicated above in the State Security Commission at the earliest,” Dr. Sangma had said in a letter sent to Conrad on Thursday.

He said in the last few months, a number of haphazard and irregular transfers of police officers across different ranks and files have been affected.
According to him, this development has vitiated the environment in the whole Police Organisation, as most of these transfers have been an outcome of political interference.
Reminding that the police organisation plays a crucial role in the whole process of ‘Administration of Justice’, he said it is besides the burden of various other responsibilities of attending to call of duty as per mandate of law.
“This whole action resorted to by the authorities due to political interference is in contravention of the provisions of the Meghalaya Police Act 2010, creating an unhealthy precedence which will have a serious bearing in the whole process of Administration of Justice,” Dr. Sangma stated.
