TURA, Sep 15: Angered at the extremely poor condition of the Samgong – Damagre road within the precincts of the town, the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Williamnagar has sought the immediate repair of the road that is one of the only connecting points for school and college going children.
The road, which becomes literally unusable due to there being no metalling or tar, connects the main road to Nengkhra through the District Jail, Loyola College and Ferrando School is located within the jurisdiction of the town of Williamnagar. The road falls under PWD.

“It is in the worst possible condition and with the rains has become un-navigable for most vehicles. All transportation through the road is cut off and school and college going children are facing tremendous hardships due to the poor nature of the road,” said general secretary of FKJGP – Williamnagar, B Marak.
According to locals, buses that try and ply keep slipping due to the loose soil after even a small spell of rains.
“This is unacceptable that people have no way to use this road despite it being one of the most important ones in the town. The WPD needs to take responsibility for the state of the road and start immediate repairs,” he added.
