SHILLONG, Sep 11: In an effort to protect the water reservoirs in the state, the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government will soon take steps to ensure that such places are properly fenced.
Informing this here on Tuesday, the state’s Public Health Engineering Minister Samlin Malngiang said, “We will ensure that all reservoirs distributing water supply to our citizens are protected. Fencing will be constructed to also ensure that entry of public to such water reservoirs is restricted.”
His statement came a day after miscreants’ poured oil-like substance in the water reservoir of Nongkseh locality in the outskirts of the city. The reservoir has a capacity of generating 40,000-50,000 litre using gravity and has been functioning for the past three years.
While condemning the incident, Malngiang said that he has also asked the chief engineer of the department to conduct an inquiry and accordingly submit a detailed report on the incident.
“I have given necessary instruction on the need to conduct an inquiry into the matter for taking necessary action, “he said while informing that the department may consider filing an FIR on this regard as this is an attempt to affect the health being of the citizens.
