SHILLONG, Sep 10: The AICC general secretary in-charge North East Luizinho Faleiro has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of robbing the mandate of the people while further alleging that the Saffron Party has manipulated the Governor’s offices in a few states.
“They (BJP) robbed the mandate of the people of Goa, Manipur and Meghalaya. So once they robbed it, it has to legitimately come back to the people because it is the people who decide whom they elect,” Faleiro said here on Monday.

He said that the BJP had manipulated the Governor’s offices in Goa, Manipur and Meghalaya to outright deny the Congress from forming the government despite securing the largest party status after the assembly elections.
Stating that the Congress will wait and watch through the “honeymoon period” of the present BJP-backed MDA government led by the National People’s Party (NPP) in Meghalaya, Faleiro alleged that this government has failed to live up to the expectations of the people, especially teachers, whose salaries are yet to be paid.
“In Goa, through the help of a constitutional functional the office of governor, they hoisted the government against the will of the people they robbed the mandate of the people of Goa,” the former chief minister of Goa said.
He said it is normally the practice that the office of the president or governor as the case may be in the parliament or assembly, they have to invite the single largest party (to form the government).
“If either the president or the governor has not done (this), they have gone against the constitutional practice. So this is what we (Congress in Goa) were expecting that the governor would call us next day morning but she didn’t,” he said.
