TURA, Aug 11: Villagers of Chidimit Nengsat have alleged police highhandedness after a resident, who allegedly was picked up by policemen about a week ago died under mysterious circumstances. The incident occurred under Songsak Police Station in East Garo Hills with the EGH police administration asking for a full investigation into the matter.
According to the police sources, one Hillary Ch Momin was found to be shouting and disturbing the peace of the area while the SI and Incharge of the Dagal AD camp, N Nongkhlaw, accompanied by police staff were returning from official duty.
Momin was picked up by the police on August 3 last.

“He was found to be in a drunken state and was accordingly taken for safe custody to Songsak PS for the night. He was later released the next day on a PR bond at around 2 pm. It was reported that he died today (morning), August 11, with the people accusing the police of assaulting him leading to him succumbing to his injuries,” said the SP of EGH, Ringrang TG Momin.
A case has apparently been lodged in the matter and appropriate action is to follow.
“The villagers have accused the incharge of the Dagal AD Camp of beating up this person due to which he succumbed where as the person in question has denied any wrong doing. We are currently investigating the matter at hand,” added Momin.
