SHILLONG, Aug 10: The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma has said that his father, (L) PA Sangma had real concern for Ranikor constituency and had wanted to do something for the welfare of the people residing there.
While campaigning for the NPP’s candidate for the by polls in the constituency, Martin M Danggo at Ranikor on Friday, Conrad said, “My late father P. A. Sangma had concerns for the people of Ranikor constituency. He had said that if we are given an opportunity, we should do something for the people. I feel privileged that people of Meghalaya gave us the mandate and we were able to do something for the welfare of Ranikor.”
Martin Danggo sat with the crowd, which was addressed by C&RD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, State President W. R. Kharlukhi, State General Secretary Babeth Sangma, amongst others.
Speaking highly about Martin Danggo, who quit the Congress party to re-contest byelection, Conrad said, “He (Danggo) has sacrificed his post for the people of Ranikor constituency. He did not resign for his own interest but because he was concern for the people and wanted to fulfill the aspirations of the people.”
He urged the public to give a befitting response to Danggo and ensure that he gets the biggest mandate of the people.
Conrad also took a dig at former Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma at the rally and accused him of misusing central funds, which he said had derailed development in the State.
“We have been able to reverse the trend and ensure that we serve the people. NPP is in the ruling side, I am confident that people of Ranikor will vote for the ruling party and reelect Martin Danggo to represent the people. Don’t be mislead and vote without any fear,” he added.
