SHILLONG,Aug 05: Allaying fears of the over twenty thousand Khasis residing in barrack valley of Assam whose name did not feature in the draft NRC list, AASU Chairman Samujjal Bhatacharya on Sunday assured that the AASU and NESO will take it up and they should be rest assured that their name will feature in the list.
“There are many genuine residents whose name did not feature in the list. They should not fear we will take it up. The names will appear,” said Bhattacharjje on Sunday after his meeting with the KSU central body, KSU barrack valley unit and NESO here in the city.

KSU General Secretary, Donald Thabah expressed that of the over one lakh Khasis residing in the barrack valley, the names of over twenty thousand did not feature in the NRC.
He also said that they discussed the issue in the meeting.
On the allegation of KSU highhandedness and harassment in dealing with the problem of influx by setting up of infiltration gate, both the KSU and the AASU maintained that there was no harassment involved and if anybody feels so they can contact the KSU and the AASU for assistance.
Donald further maintained that since the state lacks proper influx checking mechanism and stringent legislations it became imperative on the KSU to set up infiltration gates to check on the over 40 lakh people whose name did not feature in the draft NRC list of Assam.
“Meghalaya is not equipped with stringent laws and there is high possibility of the NRC rejects from Assam to seek asylum in the state and we did not harass anyone we were just sending back those who did not have valid documents or no documents,” said Thabah.
He further pointed out that over 1,000 migrants without documents were detected at Ri-Bhoi and 400 at East Jaintia Hills.
