AJYWO calls for strong legislation to tackle influx

SHILLONG, Aug 05: As support and demand builds up in Meghalaya for a National Register of Citizens (NRC) like exercise to combat influx, the All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organization (AJYWO) central body joined in the bandwagon and urged the state government to come up with strong legislation to counter illegal migrants.


Pointing out the various setbacks and threats the state is faced with in checking influx with no effective tool or legislation in place, the AJYWO   in a press communiqué issued here stressed on the need of the state government to put effective laws in place to check the flow of illegal migrants.
The AJYWO also urged for collective responsibility and unity of the indigenous populace to tackle the problem and requested district council, Dorbar shnong and the people to be vigilant.
