SHILLONG, Aug 03: The former chief of the disbanded ANVC (B), Bernard N Marak, has decided not to contest the South Tura by elections and rather to support the candidature of Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma in the upcoming elections.
Bernard had said on Friday that after having given the matter a lot of thought, he had decided against contesting in the hope of the CM being able to bring about change and development. Further, he added that even if he won the elections, he would still not be the Chief Minister and as such support should be for Conrad.

“I decided to support Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma because I feel he is the right candidate for the top job in the state. Instead of opposing the candidate who is slated to become the state chief minister we should all unite and support him,” said Bernard.
He added that there are many issues concerning the common people and the youth that needed to be seriously taken up and resolved and the CM was in the best position to take up the mantle of development through the development of livelihood opportunities.
“There are many problems facing the poor and the youth that needs to be urgently looked into. Unemployment and lack of livelihood opportunities for the youth are major issues,” added Bernard.
