SHILLONG, July 13: Providing come clarity on the reason for his sudden resignation from the post of Chairman of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), LG Nongsiej has said that a No Confidence Motion (NCM) moved against him had forced him to make this sudden decision.
Nongsiej said that the NCM was moved by the NPP member from Sohrynkham Pyniaid Sing Syiem after the emergent session convened on Tuesday for trial of strength in the House.

“I had received the NCM against me and I decided that if the members no longer have confidence in me, there is no point for me to continue in the post. Accordingly I submitted my resignation, the next day,” he said.
Nongsiej’s decision to quit as KHADC chairman was severely criticized by the members of the newly formed Khasi Hills Democratic Alliance (KHDA) who said that it was a move to create unnecessary problems leading to the rescheduling of the election to the post of Chief Executive Member (CEM).
Earlier, former KHADC chief Pynshngain N Syiem had tendered his resignation before facing the trial of strength during the emergent special session held at the council on Tuesday.
Nongsiej, who is also a PDF member said that some of the members were not happy when he refused to allow them to speak after announcing Syiem’s resignation. He also denied that his resignation was to prevent the House from electing a new leader.
