SHILLONG, July 10: Former senior Congress leader Martin M Danggo has reposed his faith in the people of Ranikor constituency, believing that they will re – elect him in the upcoming by election for the seat.
Speaking at the inaugural function of newly created Ranikor Civil sub division at Ranikor on Tuesday, Danggo said, “We have fought very hard to get Ranikor civil sub division and I am willing to accept the decision of the people whether they support me or not in the bye-election.”

Danggo, who is a five time legislator of Ranikor, had resigned as member of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on June 21, after the state government agreed to upgrade administrative unit in Ranikor into a full fledged civil sub division.
He is now all set to seek re-election by contesting from the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) which is leading the six party Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government.
“I am pleased and I will not feel anything even if I lose in the bye-election because when I was with the Congress, we have not got the things that we required especially in term of development,” he said.
Danggo said that the civil sub division is dedicated to the people of the constituency. “It is for the betterment of the people and their future generation. I have decided to resign just to get civil sub division for you. You may feel bad that I did so but I would ask friends from other political parties what is the need of fighting elections if it is not for bringing development to the doorstep of our people,” he said.
He also lauded the MDA government for understanding the need to bring administration closer to the people.
“I leave it to the wisdom of the people of my constituency. I welcome everybody who wants to contest the by – election,” Danggo later said.
Earlier addressing on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said that he had come on behalf of the Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma and MDA government to inaugurate the civil sub division for Ranikor.
Stating that Ranikor has been neglected for a long time, he assured that the present government will do whatever it can to bring administration closer to the people.
“In the coming days, we will further take measures to ensure the aspirations of the people are fulfilled,” he said.
Lauding the bold decision of the former MLA, he said, “I want to tell you (people) that Danggo is a responsible leader and he is working hard for the constituency.”
