SHILLONG, July 09: Plans to enroll new voters from among the residents of Sweepers’ Colony in Them Iew Mawlong is facing stiff opposition from the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM).
In a letter to the state’s chief electoral officer (CEO) FR Kharkongor, KHNAM-State youth wing president Thomas Passah said, “We strongly protest against enrolment of new voter from the area (Sweepers’ colony), especially due the present situation in the State.”
He said this was after the party was informed that the Election Department has instructed the Booth Level Officer (BLOs) to visit the Colony vide its letter issued on June 13, for special summary revision.
Stating that the letter address to the “Rangbah Shnong” of the Colony was also highly questionable, Passah said, “Rangbah Shnong should be from amongst the indigenous citizen of the state and he should be in possession of sanat from the Hima of Syiem Mylliem.”
Meanwhile, Passah also informed that a delegation of the party had also met the deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong, who is also chairman of the High Level Committee and apprised him of the matter.
