SHILLONG, July 05: The Congress party in Meghalaya has quelled all questions as to whether it will field candidates in the upcoming by elections in the Ranikor and South Tura constituencies.

Dispelling all rumours in this regard, the working president of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), James S Lyngdoh said, “In the light of the confusion created with regard to fielding of party candidate for Ranikor Assembly Constituency, the Meghalaya PCC hereby clarifies that the Indian National Congress would field candidates in both Ranikor and South Tura constituencies as and when the announcements for the bye elections to both constituencies are made.”
Lyngdoh informed that at present, the process of revamping the Ranikor Block Congress Committee (RBCC) is being done by the team of BCC members led by its convenor.
The by elections to the two seats were necessitated after former senior Congress leader Martin M Danggo resigned as Ranikor MLA and Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma’s sister, Agatha K Sangma resigned as South Tura MLA recently.
