SHILLONG, June 09: The district administration of East Khasi Hills (EKH) is assessing the security situation in Shillong city before making any decision to completely lift the curfew imposed in the city.
Informing this here on Saturday, the district magistrate, PS Dkhar said, “We are assessing the situation on a daily basis. It takes time to consider lifting the curfew totally for the sake of ensuring security.”
On Saturday curfew in areas under Lumdiengjri Police Station and Cantonment Beat House was relaxed from 7 am to 4 pm, while night curfew in the entire Shillong remained unchanged from 8 pm to 5 am on Sunday.
People were seen rushing to Motphran area and Iewduh, the main market in the city during the relaxation of curfew to buy various goods especially essential commodities like vegetables, meat and other items which in turn resulted in traffic snarls in the area and the city in general.
Violence had erupted at Motphran and Mawkhar area in the past few days over the issue related to shifting of settlers from Them Iew Mawlong.
