SHILLONG, June 07:  East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Peter S. Dkhar on Thursday informed that the suspension of internet service on mobile phones will continue for another 24 hours.
“We will again review the situation before taking a final call for resuming of the internet service on mobiles,” Dkhar further said.

Earlier, Home Minister, James PK Sangma said that the Government has asked the Deputy Commissioner to take a call for resuming of the internet service after assessing of the situation.
It may be mentioned that the government had to suspend the internet service in mobiles after the law and order situation had aggravates at Motphran and its adjoining areas on the night of May 31 night following rumours spread in the social media about the death of one of the local youth who was assaulted by residents of sweeper colony at Them Iew Mawlong.
The rumours went viral and created panic and anger among the Khasi locals who later assembled and started marching towards the Them Iew Mawlong.
