TURA, June 07: Residents have been irked by the BSNL after the service provider stopped SMS services to the Garo Hills region while there has been no network in the entire South Garo Hills (SGH) region for about a week now.
SMS services in the Khasi-Jaintia region had been stopped to ensure the flare up in Shillong did not intensify, though the services being stopped for Garo Hills as well has made no sense to most of the users.

The matter came to light after some users posted their problems on social media after the stoppage of services and sought a solution to the problems being faced from the CMO, Meghalaya – a page of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
“I have most of my online payments linked to BSNL and cannot operate it with other service providers for now. I have not been able to make pending bills or even recharge my phone due to this sudden stoppage of SMS service,” said one of the respondents online.
Another complainant stated that paying GST was becoming a problem due to the stoppage of services.
“We are completely at a loss to understand what needs to be done. They need to rectify the situation quickly in Garo Hills so that people can start doing normal things,” said another respondent.
Meanwhile in SGH, the situation has been worse with no BSNL or Airtel service for about three – days now. Some people have even resorted to using SIM cards of neighboring country to stay in touch.
