SHILLONG, June 05: In a new twist to the protests to relocate harijans from Them Iew Mawlong, the Dorbar Shnong of Nongmensong on Tuesday said they will not allow the state government to shift the harijans from the Sweepers’ Colony to any parts of its jurisdiction.
The stand of the dorbar shnong was also conveyed by a delegation to the state government through the Health Minister AL Hek, who is also Pynthorumkhrah MLA, during a meeting held here on Tuesday.

Village general secretary A Nongdhar said the Dorbar will not allow government to shift the Sweeper’s in its jurisdiction.
He also appreciated the minister for taking the matter seriously by clarifying before the residents of the village on the rumors that was spreading about the government’s move to relocate the Sweepers’ Colony to Nongmensong area.
Earlier, the minister said that so far there has been no decision taken by the state government to shift the people residing in Them Iew Mawlong to Nongmensong.
He also informed that the matter was only a personal opinion of the Nongkrem MLA Lambor Malngiang, who had claimed that Housing facility has already been constructed for them
“It is his (Lambok) personal statement and not the government. But I am also part of the High Level Committee constituted to find a solution to this problem and we will ensure that it will not cause any problem to the people and this I assure you as an MLA and minister,” he said.
Speaking to reporters, the minister said that on Tuesday morning all shops were closed in Nongmensong because of the rumors that around 20 trucks are coming to the village for shifting the people residing in Them Iew Mawlong to the Housing facility at Nongmensong.
He also urged the residents of Nongmensong not to pay heed to such rumors.
