SHILLONG, June 05: Miani D Shira, daughter of former Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma, took oath as the new MLA of Ampati here on Tuesday. She was elected in the bypoll and replaced her father, who represented Ampati for 25 years since 1993.
The oath was administered to 27 year old Miani by Assembly Speaker Donkupar Roy at his office chamber in the city on Tuesday.
The ceremony was also attended by Dr Sangma, his wife Dikkanchi D Shira, also MLA of Mahendraganj, brother Zenith Sangma, MLA of Rangsakona and other MLAs and leaders of the party.
Speaking to reporters, Miani said that her priority would be to develop human resource in the constituency.
Stating that her father had done a lot for the constituency, Miani said, her task would be to carry forward the developmental initiatives and address people’s needs especially human resource development.
“Though new as MLA, but I will work for the people of the constituency and the state,” she added.
