SHILLONG, June 04: A conglomerate of eleven NGOs from the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region on Monday unanimously decided to take up stern action if the state government fails to relocate Harijans from Them Iew Mawlong at the earliest.
The decision was taken at a meeting convened by the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) with leaders of the different NGOs in the city here on Monday. The 10 NGOs include SSSS, HANM, WKHSU, JSU, JYF, AJSU, WYF, CORP, RBSU and EJNC.

“We will soon meet the state government to put forth our demand. However, if the state government fails to pay heed to our demand, we would be compelled to resort to agitational programme,” HYC president Robertjune Kharjahrin told reporters after the meeting.
He said that things will come back to normal once the residents of Sweepers’ Lane are relocated. “Therefore there is a need for the state government to take a call on this matter at the earliest,” he said.
