SHILONG, May 16: Reacting to the one year suspension which the party had placed him under, the MDC representing Mawhati in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), James Sylliang has decided to quit the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) on Wednesday.
“We have also decided to dissolve the PDF Mawhati Zonal Committee (MZC) with immediate effect because it is clear to us that they do not want me to be the candidate for the upcoming MDC elections to be held next year,” Sylliang informed after a meeting of the MZC.

Sylliang and another PDF MDC, Grace Mary Kharpuri representing Nongskhen constituency were suspended by the party after they decided to rebel against the incumbent KHADC chief Pynshngain N Syiem.
Earlier, both of them were also dropped from the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) executive committee led by the PDF in the KHADC.
Stating that there was no show cause notice issued by the party, he said, “The PDF has also failed to mention in the letter of suspension the kind of anti party activities that I was alleged to have been involved in.”
Sylliang, who was also a founding member of the PDF, further alleged that the decision was also taken without convening any meeting and that some of the leaders of the party were also not happy.
“This is actually Syiem’s decision and not the president of the party Ivanlumlang Marbaniang, who is just a puppet,” he said.
Terming the PDF as a “one man show”, Sylliang said, “The PDF is fit to be renamed - Pynshngain Dictator Party as it is a party being controlled by only one man.”
Sylliang also said that he will immediately withdraw support to the PDA-led executive committee and play his role as an opposition MDC in the Council.
Asked whether he is ready to work with the opposition Congress party, Sylliang said that he is yet to decide on the matter.
Earlier, Sylliang had launched a signature campaign to demand for a special session to seek clarification from the KHADC CEM on the alleged misappropriation of the Rs 28 crore out of Rs 32 crore sanctioned by the Centre.
Sylliang however informed that he has decided to call off the campaign as it is pointless since the upcoming session of the Council will be held next month.
“I have got the support of many MDCs but they were of the opinion that it is better to wait for the session to which I agreed to withdraw campaign. Many members are grumbling but we are waiting for the right time,” he said.
Sylliang further reminded that the letter that was sent to the PDF for convening a meeting to discuss on the issue of leadership in the KHADC was also signed by two other MDCs of the party – Latiplang Kharkongor and James Ban Basaiawmoit.
“Now they (Latiplang and James Ban) are keeping quiet. In fact, Latiplang was the one who drafted the letter,” he said.
