TURA, May 15: More than 50 surrendered cadres, mainly from the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) have complained of the non receipt of their stipends or their rehabilitation packages despite it being more than a year of their laying down arms.
“Ever since we came over-ground we have received nothing from the state government to restart our lives. Our monthly stipends have not been given since we left and we have no clue on our rehabilitation packages. We just wish to ask the government to look at our state and release our packages for us to restart our lives,” said Zen R Ch Marak (Rupanto), the former deputy commander in chief of the GNLA.
According to the former rebels, they have completed all formalities including identification as well as submission of their account details to the authorities though there was still no word on the status of their packages for rehabilitation.
Upon being contacted on the matter, the DGP of Meghalaya, SB Singh said that the packages had been sanctioned by the state and would soon be disbursed to the various cadres after completion of formalities. The same is expected to be completed very soon according to the DGP.
