Conrad happy with progress of coal mining talks

SHILLONG, May 12: The discussion with the Centre pertaining to the resumption of coal mining activities in Meghalaya are progressing well, according to Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma who has informed that Coal Ministry officials will be visiting the state soon.


Conrad had informed this on Saturday after meeting Union Coal Minister Piyush Goyal. Accompanied by Advocate General Amit Kumar, Conrad had also held a separate detailed discussion with the officials from the Ministry of Coal which was also attended by Additional Secretary and Joint Secretary, Ministry of Coal.
“The discussion to restart coal mining in Meghalaya has progressed positively. The Ministry has asked us to work on different modalities, which is being prepared by the State Government. A team from the Ministry is likely to visit the State soon,” Conrad said.
Terming the meeting as fruitful, the Chief Minister said, “All cooperation and support has been extended by the Centre to resolve the ban on coal mining in Meghalaya.”
In the last two months, the Chief Minister has called on the Union Coal Minister three times.
