Assam to construct 8000 km PMGSY roads within a year

GUWAHATI, May 12: The BJP-led Assam government will construct 8000 kms of roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
Assam Public Works Department (PWD) minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that the Centre has already sanctioned funds for the construction of 8000 km more roads under the PMGSY in the state and the state government is now looking to construct these roads within a year for better connectivity.

Addressing a press conference held in Guwahati, the Assam minister said that since 2005-2006, over 19,000 km roads were constructed in the state under PMGSY.
“The new road construction work will be started from September 1 next with the target of completing all these roads within a year. Apart from this, the state Public Works department will repair all 19,000 km roads which were constructed earlier” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
He further said that during the period, his department will construct 1400 wooden bridges and 700 concrete bridges.
Sarma also said that the state government will construct three new flyover bridges in Guwahati.
“The new flyover bridges will be constructed at Dispur Super Market, Ganeshguri and Fatasil Ambari area,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
