TURA, May 11: Miani D Shira who is the daughter of former Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma has kicked up a virtual storm after a video of her speech, after filing her nomination for the Ampati seat a few days ago, went viral in which she allegedly used the word ‘sengbata’ which means more intelligent, when comparing the people of Ampati with those in Selsella.
Selsella is the constituency from where the current Chief Minister and national president of the National People’s Party (NPP), Conrad K Sangma votes from. The seat is currently represented by former Congress Minister, Clement Marak.

The video, which has gone viral, has led to an outcry from residents of Selsella constituency who are demanding an apology from the aspiring candidate for her comments.
“This just shows her immaturity as a person. Her distinction between people of two constituencies is uncalled for and shows her highhandedness. She should immediately apologize for demeaning and insulting the people of Selsella in her speech,” said former NGO member and resident of Selsella, Adinson Ch Momin.
“This shows her upbringing, feudalistic attitude and regionally discriminating mentality. Her looking down on the populace of Selsella is uncalled for. She should never be giving her ‘Saccha Pyar’ lecture by comparing and humiliating us,” added Momin.
The video has also led to a spate of memes on social media with many questioning the reason for the speech and discriminatory words. The speech has also been termed as ‘hate speech’ by many social media users with a call asking for the Congress contestant to apologize to the people.
