SHILLONG, April 16: In a major embarrassment, the organizers of the 9th convocation of the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Shillong were left red faced, when they failed to present a momento to the State Home Minister, James Sangma while all other dignitaries, including the Vice President of India, Venkaiah Naidu were being felicitated on state here on Monday.

It was towards the end of the programme, after the conclusion of the speeches that the names of all the dignitaries on the dais were announced, followed by the presentation of momentos for their participation and as a sign of appreciation from the institute.
However, when the name of the state Home Minister, James Sangma was announced and he moved up for his turn to receive the momento there was no momento to be found, leaving the organizers looking at each other in confusion and the person bringing in the momentos shaking his hand from the door signaling that there was none left.
Damage control was quick and the person announcing the names put in a witty statement that defused the tension and brought in laughter.
“He is our own Home Minister from the state and the momento is on its way,” the announcer said.
During all this, a smile did not leave James’ face and he nodded with a smile saying it is ok.
It was learnt that the IIM Director, Dr. Amitabha De was fuming with anger soon after the incident.
