SHILLONG, April 13: Raising funds to host the National Games in 2022 is proving to be a tedious task for the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government and as pointed out by Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, there is a need for a different budgetary allocation just for National Games.
Replying to the budget discussion in the Assembly here on Friday, Conrad said, “It is a tedious and heavy exercise as there is need for a different budgetary allocation just for National Games. I assure you that we are working on this.” He also admitted that the budget allocated to the sports department is not sufficient.

Informing that the National Games Organizing Committee have been formed and is on the job (for the preparation), Conrad said that the sports department has been asked to identify what would be productive way to invest on sports associations.
He also said that the state government will have to raise funds and that necessary help will be extended by the Centre.
“We want to ensure that the state also wins some medals in the National Games,” he said while welcoming the suggestion for having playing fields in all the districts, which the government has proposed to take up in phased manner depending on the availability of funds.
