TURA, April 12: The Meghalaya Power Generation Company Limited (MePGCL) has filed a police complaint against the alleged circulation of photos of poor construction of the upcoming Ganol Small Hydro Project which is coming up on the outskirts of the town of Tura. The complaint was filed by the executive engineer, AK Nandi, for the Ganol Civil Division No. 1 at the Chandmari Beat House.
The complaint comes in the wake of allegations of poor construction with photos circulating showing branches and twigs mixed with concrete in some sections of the dam wall.

“The content of the photos and message have spread misinformation and misleading the people. This is also maligning the dignity of the officers and the staff of the Ganol SH project,” stated the complaint.
Photos purportedly showing twigs and branches have been circulating for the past few days showing what appears to be a section of a under construction wall – which is said to be a part of the project. The circulation of the photos has led to a call for an inquiry into the matter so that the reality of the project could be brought to light.
Confirming the receipt of the complaint, the Superintendent of Police, West Garo Hills, Dr MGR Kumar said that a police team would visit the site tomorrow to check on the complaint.
“An FIR has been made and a GD entry done. Subject to the availability of the complainant and other competitive authorities, the incharge of Chandmari Beat House will make a spot visit followed by a preliminary inquiry tomorrow (Friday),” said Dr Kumar.
