TURA, April 10: The sad plight of another school in East Garo Hills (EGH) came to the fore on Tuesday after a concerned resident of the area informed how students have been coping with the poor infrastructure to continue their education.
The Asimgre SSA LP School under Samanda Block was set up in the 1990s though since its inception, there has been no repair or maintenance of the schools buildings leading to the school literally having its roof and doors ripped off.
The school authorities however are yet to complain to the education department being unaware of what needs to be done.
“They have not complained as they were unaware of who to contact. It is the only LP school in the entire village and caters to almost all the local children. They are currently in the process of approaching the authorities to seek funds for school repair but the situation for the children is not good,” said the resident who informed on the matter.
The children have had to bear through rain day holidays and have struggled to get proper education due to the amount of disturbances caused by the poor infrastructure. If not repaired quickly, there may an accident soon,” said the resident.
The Deputy Commissioner of EGH, Ram Kumar said that the matter was being looked into.
“We are visiting schools on a regular basis to check on the state of infrastructure and we will soon ensure things are taken care of one by one,” said Kumar when informed on the matter.
The Garo Hills region has seen quite a few schools crying out for infrastructure development due to the dilapidated state of infrastructure. The lackadaisical approach of the education department to these problems too has not helped the state which has for quite a few years now struggled to ensure proper education to all.
