SHILLONG, Feb 13: The bomb attack that happened in Dawki on Sunday last is the work of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) which has claimed responsibility for the incident.
“The outfit is taking full responsibility on the lobbing of a bomb at the residence of one Than Khonglah in Dawki in the evening of February 11 (Sunday),” HNLC publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said in a statement issued here on Tuesday.

While reports have stated that police are yet to identify the explosive, the HNLC has claimed that the explosive hurled in the compound of Khonglah was a ‘hand grenade’.
Holding Khonglah guilty of acting as a ‘conspirator’ against the outfit, Nongtraw said that he was involved in the arrest of many supporters and sympathizers of the HNLC.
“He (Khonglah) has been misleading the business community about the outfit by using surrendered HNLC cadres and even police against the outfit,” he said while adding, “The lobbing of a grenade in his residence is a warning against others not to be against the HNLC otherwise we would not be hesitate to take their lives even if it takes 5 months or 5 years.”
Meanwhile, the outfit has also claimed that it would ensure that the ruling Congress will not come back to power especially from Khasi-Jaintia Hills region.
“The Congress is the only party which is providing a safe haven for illegal influx and immigration and the present government under its ruled has completely lost the confident of the people. We will ensure that it will not come back to power in Khasi-Jaintia Hills,” he said.
Nongtraw also stated that the decision of the Chief  Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma to contest from two seats, Ampati and Songsak in the coming February 27 Assembly polls will not work while urging the people of the state to reject the Congress.
