SHILLONG, Jan 10: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) on Wednesday accused Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma of turning the Meghalaya Livestock Mission into an “election scheme” of the Congress party to woo voters ahead of the state Assembly polls.
“The chief minister has turned the government’s Meghalaya Livestock Mission to an election scheme of the Congress just to woo voters,” PDF chairman Pynshngain N Syiem told reporters here on Wednesday.
Syiem, a former Congress legislator from Mawsynram and also holding the post of Chief Executive Member (CEM) in the KHADC, also alleged that Dr. Sangma is giving Rs 1 crore to each candidate of the Congress for buying votes in the upcoming elections.
“We have received inputs that Congress sitting legislators and also candidates who will be contesting the elections have been distributing this money to the electorate in their respective constituencies. Rs 5,000 each was given to around 2000 voters,” he alleged.
Condemning the chief minister for allegedly abusing his powers, Syiem said, “How is it possible for a government scheme to be converted to an election shceme…I was taken by surprise to know that even people in Shillong are beneficiaries. I wonder where they will have place for livestock farms.”
“This only shows that Sangma is not fit to be the chief minister of the state,” he said.
