TURA, Jan 10: In a blow to the chances of National People’s Party (NPP) for the Bajengdoba constituency, the president of the NPP Block Committee resigned on Tuesday citing personal reasons.
Rakman Ch Marak, who was part of the NPP for quite a few years, put in his resignation to the district president of North Garo Hills (NGH) before officially joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a ceremony on Tuesday.
The youth leader joined the saffron party along with a few more of his supporters at Resubelpara Jonglapara in the presence of the state BJP president, Shibun Lyngdoh as well as the lone Garo legislator of the BJP in Assam, Numal Momin.
“We firmly believe that to bring development to the state of Meghalaya we need the BJP in governance and that is why we decided to be a part of the party and support it in the coming elections. The time for change has come,” said Marak when contacted for the reason for leaving the NPP.
