Kidnap victim rescued in joint operations in NGH, 6 arrested

TURA, Jan 05: A 63 year old victim, who was kidnapped by a gang of criminals near Lakhipur village in Goalpara, Assam was rescued on Friday in a joint operation by the Assam and Meghalaya police.
The victim, identified as Sukur Ali of the village of Folimari in Lakhipur, was kidnapped by a mixed group of criminals from the place and brought to Meghalaya for safe keeping. The kidnapping took place on January 02, 2018 with the rescue taking place on Friday morning near Bajengdoba in North Garo Hills (NGH).

According to police sources, the four arrested from Meghalaya were a part of a mixed group of Assam-Meghalaya criminals with all of them being involved in the kidnapping of Ali.
The rescue of the 63 year old was made possible after Assam police managed to nab one of the kidnappers in Assam. Upon interrogation he revealed the names of the others from his gang and led the police to Meghalaya where Ali was being kept confined in the village of Mansinggre Rongnak under Bajengdoba Police Station in North Garo Hills.
“It was a joint search and rescue operation with Assam police that led to the arrest of the four kidnappers from NGH after two more were arrested from Assam. During the early morning operation, a few shots were fired though there were no injuries during the incident,” said Superintendent of Police of NGH, Dalton Marak.
The four arrested from Garo Hills have been identified as Jandal Ch Sangma (20), Julius Ch Sangma (21), Brendil R Marak (22), Sangna A Sangma (18). All four arrested were from the same village of Mansinggre. The victim was later taken to Goalpara to be reunited with his family.
Police recovered 2 country made revolver along with 9 rounds of ammunition from the gang during the rescue operation. The two Assam members of the gang however were not identified as there taken by Assam police.
