Abducted Krishnai businessman released in NGH

TURA, Jan 03: A businessman from Krishnai in Goalpara in Assam was kidnapped near North Garo Hills (NGH) district by miscreants allegedly belonging to Assam leading to villagers chasing after the abductors when they came for safe-keeping in Meghalaya. The family of the victim who was released on Wednesday allegedly paid an amount of Rs 10 lakhs as ransom to the abductors for his release.

According to information received, Samad Ali was kidnapped by a three member group, which allegedly belonged to Meghalaya on December 31 from the vicinity of the Assam – Meghalaya border before being brought to Meghalaya by the kidnappers.
Their coming to Meghalaya was however seen by villagers ensuring in a chase for the kidnappers of the Krishnai based businessman.
“When they were seen, the villagers accompanied by policemen gave chase. They ran into the nearby jungles before they could be caught. As it was dark, no pursue was attempted,” said the Superintendent of Police (SP) of NGH, Dalton Marak. 
Police sources stated that the kidnappers sought Meghalaya as a safe haven but were repelled by the villagers who chased after them.
Ali was released on Wednesday after a severe beating that he allegedly received at the hands of his kidnappers near the village of Kukurkata, close to the border and was rushed to Goalpara for treatment due to the severity of the beatings.
“We are coordinating with the Assam police on the matter and sharing all information as received. We are hopeful of a breakthrough soon,” said Marak.
