SHILLONG, Dec 05: Protesting against the denial of a ticket to Wandashisha Wahlang, members of the National People’s Party (NPP) from Jirang constituency have quit the party on Tuesday.
Twenty-five leaders of the different primary units and polling booths from the constituency have signed a letter to withdraw support to the NPP.

“We the strong supporters of Wahlang have unanimously decided to quit and no longer support the NPP for its arbitrary decision on the matter,” E Nongrum, Secretary, Harli Bagan Primary Unit, who is one among the signatories the resignation letter, said.
The leaders also accused the party under the leadership of its national president Conrad K Sangma for betraying their trust.
“He (Conrad) was the one who had introduced Wahlang as the party candidate in the several meetings held in the constituency. Even in the church at Maikhuli, he had appealed the people to support Wahlang. But the decision to instead allot the ticket to others only shows that he is not a man of his words,” they said.
They claimed that they have got the support of the people from as many as 60 villages and have formed 87 primary units of the party.
