Labourer arrested after attempted molestation

TURA, Dec 02: A labourer working near the Tura Government College was arrested after attempting to molest a Class XII student in the premises of the Tura Government College at about 11 am on Saturday morning.
According to sources, the incident occurred when the girl was inside her classroom early on Saturday morning for her classes and waiting for her friends. Finding her alone, the accused got into the classroom and attempted to sexually harass her leading to her shouting for help and also running from the place.


Labourers who were nearby rushed to the spot and immediately caught hold of the accused before giving him a thrashing. Hearing the commotion, locals from near the area too joined in beating up the accused.Another two labourers, though not involved in the crime, were also beaten up by the people gathered there, leading to them landing up in hospital with injuries. Their condition is said to be stable.
The accused along with the other 2 labourers were later handed over to the police.
An FIR was filed on the incident this afternoon by the victim leading to the arrest of the accused whose name is being withheld.
“We have arrested the labourer based on the FIR filed on the incident at the Tura Women’s PS and after medicals being completed. Investigation into the entire incident is currently on,” confirmed West Garo Hills (WGH) Superintendent of Police (SP), Dr MGR Kumar.
