Tura, Nov 29: A teacher of Christians’ Boys Schooo in Tura was allegedly beaten up by a group of drug addicts while he was on his way to his home. The intensity of the beatings was so bad that the teacher landed up in hospital.
An FIR was filed on the matter in the Tura Police Station after the incident which occurred on Monday last became widely known. The victim who has been identified as Chanchal Das is a science teacher at the Christian Boys School and was attacked at around 4:30 pm.

According to sources, Das was making his way to a neighbor near the Durga Mandap at Fancy Valley to seek help from her son to donate blood for his ailing mother when two young men who appeared to be drunk provoked him without any reason and began to assault him.
The assault led to the teacher sustaining multiple injuries on his face, head, and upper body including his eyes but was saved by a group of locals who rushed to the scene to help him.
The attackers allegedly belonged to the Akonggre and Sepoy Colony localities and the teaching fraternity has sought the immediate arrest of culprits while expressing disbelief at the entire episode.
“We can’t understand the reason behind assaulting a teacher. Teachers are here only for one purpose which is to teach and ensure a child gets proper education. Is it a crime to teach?” asked a school teacher who along with many others from the teaching fraternity has expressed concern over the targeting of educationists by criminals.
